My daughter and her high school friends had a little piece of their hearts broken yesterday.
Paul was killed in Afghanistan.
When I heard he was joining the military, I said "Oh NO, they'll suck the life and creativity right out of him".
I couldn't picture him as a soldier. He was an artist and a poet.
The first time I met him, he was working in a grocery store. He came up to Alli and me, stuck out his hand and said "Allison, introduce me to your mother, HI! I'm Paul!" I liked him. I'm mad and I'm sad. I go back and forth as to whether I'm more mad or more sad.
Alli still has pictures stored on her computer and in her memory of the boy who has stood in our living room and walked with them on a beach on Cape Cod.

I am so sorry to hear of this. How sad. It sounds like he was an amazing kid.
"He proved you didn't have to be like everyone else to have as many friends as the popular kids."
Your family (and his) are in my thoughts and prayers.
A terrible thing. A tragic loss.
I'm so sorry.
Oh dear. So so sorry.
How very sad. Many of my son's non-college bound friends are joining the military right now. I always try to put in a plug for the Coast Guard or to do ROTC and go to college. It's just so scary what's happening out there.
I'm sorry your daughter's are experiencing this loss.
I'm so sorry to read of this. What a tragedy. So many young, beautiful people lost in this senseless war.
My prayers for him and your daughter.
