NaBloPoMo:Day Three-5 Things-Quotes

I'm doing National Blog Posting Month with a twist. Every day I'll write 5 things about a specific topic.

Day Three- 5 of my favorite quotes

1. Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal, with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned~Buddha

I have a relative who makes me crazy. She treats my Mom like crap. She thinks she's the center of the universe. I used to be so mad at her that I would dream that I was screaming at her, at the top of my lungs. When my Mom finally told her off, the dreams stopped. I just didn't care anymore.

2. Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young~Henry Ford

Mr Sunshine's great-aunt lived to be 97. She read the newspaper every day and her mind was pretty sharp into her 90's. I took care of a man who used to be a school headmaster. Well into his 80's he could discuss any subject with you and knew everything going on in the world. I hope to be the same way.

3.The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back~Abigail Van Buren

The company my Dad worked for was near a low-income area of Providence RI. They adopted an elementary school and provided school supplies and other things the school needed. My Dad's gig was to provide something fun for Holidays. One Halloween, he picked out a small pumpkin for every kid in the school. Another time they put on a Country-Western party and Dad got straw cowboy hats for every kid. The only thing Dad got from doing this was how much pleasure it gave him.

4. Do what you feel in your heart to be right-for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do and damned if you don't~Eleanor Roosevelt

I'm a firm believer in "gut reaction". Sometimes I've been criticized for being impulsive. I used to agonize about decisions. I would run every possible outcome through my brain a million times. Then when someone didn't like my decision, I would be heartbroken. I would put so much thought into a decision and there would still be someone unhappy with my choice. Now, I just go with whatever feels right.

5. I base my fashion taste on what doesn't itch~Gilda Radner

Oh Gilda, you were so wise! I will never be a fashion maven and I will never be stylish. My priority for my clothes is for them to be comfortable. If my shirt is long enough, you can be damn sure the skirt or pants have an elastic waist. When I lived up North, it had to be 30 below zero for me to break down and put on a turtleneck. If you see me in the grocery store in Birkenstock clogs and an XXL sweatshirt, don't judge. I'm very comfortable!

Gilda was so wise. I wish everyone felt that way. I was watching a show just yesterday...a girl was looking at a shirt that she thought was cool and she turned to her friend and asked if she thought it was cool too. Her friend said "why ask me"? If it's cool to you, then it's cool.
I liked that a lot. Who cares what other people think of your clothes as long as you are happy.

Brilliant advice on every single count. I especially enjoyed the little anecdotes following them. Your dad sounds awesome.
