Scenes From A Vacation

On our way to Key West, we stayed at a resort called Hawks Cay.
We had a mixed reaction to the place.

The facilities were gorgeous. This was the view from our balcony. We slept in a king-sized bed that felt like a cloud. The food was good and the pool was sparkling clean, but the employees were a little disappointing. Except for the men who handled our luggage and a couple of great bartenders, the people working there did not smile. Mr Sunshine described one waitress and one bartender as "abrupt".
We kept talking about "what if we owned the place" and how much the employees needed some training in customer service.

When I got my pre-vacation pedicure, I didn't realize that the shade of polish I chose was exactly the shade of the water in the pool! The resort had 2 pools. One was for families and the other was for Over-21 only, called the Tranquility Pool. It was perfect. The little kids in the family pool could jump and splash to their heart's content and the adults in the other pool could completely relax.

We left there and headed for Key West, with a stop at Bahia Honda State Park to walk on the beaches for the morning. When I walk on beaches, I tend to miss a lot of scenery. I walk with my eyes on the sand, looking for shells, coral and sea glass.

The rules state that you can't remove anything living from the park. I thought I had stumbled on a big sand dollar, but when I got home and researched, I found out that it was actually a sea biscuit. It was the first one I had ever seen that was still alive. We chatted with a woman that had found a huge sponge. It was bigger than a dinner plate.

My best beach find was a heart-shaped coral. Since it was so bleached out, I assumed it was no longer living and I brought it home.

Love the pedi picture! You're right, it does match the water. Your post has left me wishing for summer or a holiday all over again. And I ain't getting either for at least another 10 months.

I am so jealous. I wanna sit by the pool with blue toenails.

I think you have to go to the gulf for sand dollars. Or at least, you used to find them there. That was 25 years ago and before a lot of enviro change, so I don't know anymore.

I hope you and Mr. SS got some much needed R&R.
