Flash Frozen In Florida

We're freaking freezing down here.

When we left MA, I wanted to stop on the Sagamore Bridge and fling my winter clothes into the Cape Cod Canal. I decided to keep a few things in case I had to make an emergency trip back in the winter. Thermal shirts, sweatpants, warm socks and my USA KungFu Academy jacket have all been worn recently...all at the same time!

It's not just Wussy Floridians whining about the cold. This is the coldest and longest freeze in 10 years. The citrus farmers and strawberry farmers are losing sleep. 28 degrees for 4 hours is enough to ruin the citrus crop. Citrus is a 9 BILLION dollar industry in FL.

There are a few schools with oil burners that have failed, because they haven't been used in years. There are students that are going to school in just sweatshirts because they don't even own a winter coat. People have been donating boxes and bags full of warm coats and clothes to the high school in Orlando that is in the lowest income district. One anonymous donor just dropped off 15 huge boxes of coats.

So, what have I been doing, besides whining...often and loudly?

Yesterday I did 4 loads of laundry, a 55 minute WiiFitPlus workout, De-Snowmanned the house, read and knitted. (I'm working on a book review post)

I tried to watch the Travel Channel, but a guy was eating Goat Soup. When he said "ooooooo, a piece of face!" I decided I needed to change the channel. I climbed into bed with my knitting and watched ELLEN.

I'm knitting a scarf for Cape Cod Kid. It needs to be at least 6-7 feet. I got 1 foot done. Of course, it's black.
I spied on a teenager fishing in our pond. He caught a fish and then KICKED!!!! it back into the pond. I try to only use my powers for good, but I put a curse on that kid. The next time he goes to the beach, he'll be attacked by a jellyfish. Karma, Dude.

Keep Warm!

I saw the citrus freeze on the news - horrible! We've had sunny days this week and today in the thirties - felt like spring!

Hope it gets warm soon!

I do feel for you--we have weather in the teens regularly, but we're prepared for it. For you, well that is just uncalled for! Layers, friend, wear your layers and keep your head covered! I can't imagine what this is like for schoolkids.

I fear for the peaches here in the GA if this keeps up....may already be gone....it will be a sad summer with no peaches.

Brrrr! At least I have an extensive collection of fleece, a gas oven fired up making bread, and most importantly, a full wine rack!

Stay warm! PS - way to go on Wii Fitness!

I have been whining a lot too! Love your 2009 post. I was so ready for a new year with new prospects. Maybe I will have to take a look back at the positives instead fo the negatives!

I think it's Gods way of reminding you were you came from!

In any case - my son is 15 - the only time he wears a ski jacket is: You guessed it - when he's snow boarding- otherwise - who needs 'em he says! All the kids walk around in sweatshirts - I guess we're hardly New Englanders!

Stay warm - and remember a warm day is probably a week away - next time we see a warm day - probably May!
